Los Angeles legend 03 Greedo is dropping Halfway There, his first project of all-newly recorded music since he entered prison in 2018.
Recorded in the months since his January release at Houston’s Sugar Hill Studios, Halfway There benefits from Greedo’s endless bag of melodies and his unique ability to write fully-realized songs in a matter of minutes.
Greedo’s songwriting retains all of the hallmarks that have made him one of the West Coast’s most beloved artists: effortless melodies, slick earworm hooks, expressively unfiltered lyrics, and the ability to flat-out spit when the situation calls.
The 33-track collection features guest appearances from familiar faces like Ty Dolla $ign, Babyface Ray, Maxo Kream, two tracks featuring Peewee Longway, Peso Peso, and more.
One of my personal favorites is “Buss Me A Script,” ft. Maxo Kream, which rekindles their chemistry first exhibited in 2019’s “Beg Your Pardon,” and finds both rappers navigating the atmospheric synths with crisp triplets and escalating intensity. Some additional standouts include the breezy “Coi Leray Diamonds” ft. Ty Dolla $ign and party anthem “1 Drink 2 Many,” and the creeping and paranoid “Industry” produced by L.A.’s Cypress Moreno.
