15 Artists On Our Radar After SXSW 2018

Every March, hundreds of artists from all over the world come to SXSW, hoping to capture the attention of the thousands of music industry professionals and fans in attendance.

While well-known Hip-Hop acts like T.I., YFN Lucci, and Dave East draw massive crowds this year, the real magic of SXSW happens when an attendee stumbles across an artist who puts on an unforgettable performance.

The Home Grown Radio team was in attendance at this year’s SXSW and we were able to get a glimpse of who we think might be the next big thing.

Check out the 15 emerging artists we think will make a splash within the next upcoming years.

Duckwrth

A rebel with a cause and a voice. Duckwrth made sure to leave a stamp all over and around 6th street this year. With dynamic performance routines, a universal sound, and a charismatic attitude, the South Central-born artist continues to bloom and boom. Stay tuned for more.

Demo Taped

Demo Taped offers a collection of flavors embedded in his animated music. The Atlanta singer-songwriter acknowledges the importance of moving a crowd. He utilizes that power to keep everyone engaged, while releasing a transparent performance of his multi-layered offerings.

Quincey White

Formally D.U.B.B., Quincey White is fully equipped with purpose and skill. The Athens Park-raised rapper embodies wise pen agility with confidence. White’s stories of trials and diligence are respected and yet to be fully unfolded.

Buddy

The Compton front-runner has been putting in work since his 2014 debut tape, Idle Time. The i am OTHER wordsmith has since released EPs Ocean & Montana,  Magnolia, and the ASAP Ferg-assisted track, “Black.” Buddy dominated SXSW this year with nothing less of slick bars and a commanding stage presence. He topped Austin with back to back shows.

G Perico

West. Coast. G Perico is the ideal combination of suave and fervor. The South Central mainstay, is known for his G-Funk sound and nostalgic energy. The 2 Tha Left emcee gave the South a taste of left coast at the Fader Fort, Thrasher showcase, and many more.

Saweetie

Bay Area emcee Saweetie is here to stay. The “ICY GRL” knows her worth and showcases her boss attitude in her music. Saweetie just released High Maintenance, a 9-track offering of persistent energy and freestyles over some of popular records.

Valee

Valee has his craft on lock. The Chicago-raised rapper pairs his refined cadence with his trap-conducted soundscapes. Valee recently teamed up with G.O.O.D music honcho Pusha T for “Miami.”

Kodie Shane

Kodie Shane is a gifted 19-year-old rapper and singer from Atlanta, whose breezy bops have earned her millions of plays and several nationwide tours, including a recent slot supporting Jhené Aiko and Willow Smith.

FREEWIFI

Already winning the favor of several music fans, Minneapolis hip-hop trio FREEWIFI is giving the world a delectable dose of melodic flows, catchy hooks and clever wordplay with their music.

A.CHAL

Alejandro Chal better known as A.Chal is a Peruvian R&B singer-songwriter and producer, who’s making a name for himself. Staying close to his Latin roots, he recently linked up with Nicky Jam and 2 Chainz for the remix of his newest single “Love N Hennessy.”

SOB X RBE

Joining the league of new rappers is SOB x RBE! The group consists of four main members from the Bay Area who garnered success after being on tour with Sage the Gemini and landed a spot of the chart-topping Black Panther: The Album earlier this year.

Chinese Kitty

Chinese Kitty gained popularity through her appearances in music videos. Fans may remember her from her apperances in videos from T.I., Fabolous, and Ludacris. Most recently, the 23-year-old has been taken the music scene by storm.

Wifisfuneral

Wifisfuneral comes straight from South Florida and has been booming in the rap scene. Wifi’s versatility allows fans to quickly gravitate with his music. There’s no doubt that it’s only a matter of time for Wifisfuneral to continue shining.

Skooly

Skooly, born Kazarion Fowler, was a founding member of Atlanta-based rap group Rich Kidz. Branching off from Rich Kidz to pursue a solo career in 2015, Skooly has since released several solo projects. Most recently, under 2 Chainz’ label T.R.U., starting with Skooly’s label-debut album BAcCWArdFeELiNgS in 2017.

Molly Brazzy

Last but not least, Molly Brazy is taking over! She started her career as making small videos of rapping and uploading it on Instagram. And soon after her popularity grew and she got 700k followers on Instagram with no time.
