Premiere: Xavier Takes Us Home In “Film” (Video)

They say home is where the heart is. For Southern California rapper, Xavier, the phrase holds truth. The wordsmith keeps true to his roots in the latest video debut for his track “Film.” X invites us to his desolate hometown of Blythe, California to shed light on his humble beginnings. Director Duke Visions captures a stunningly scenic perspective of the underpopulated and agriculturally dominated community.

Xavier shares:

“To me I always looked at being from a small town as a bad thing. Growing up you see people on TV living in huge cities with sky scrapers. Doing things we never had the chance to. We didn’t even have a mall. When I meet people and tell them where I’m from they usually respond with the same question, “Where?!?” So I figured, in order to tell my story properly I needed to finally show them.

This is where my brother was laid to rest, this is where my parents still live, this is home.”

The moment that the record starts, you feel like you’re in an Imax Theatre setting, waiting and anticipating. After you’ve made it through ALL of the boring previews, the movie is FINALLY about to commence. The vivid and meticulously constructed production is provided by frequent UK collaborator, RJ Beatz. The nostalgic record lives on the Apostrophes EP. Contrary to the popular and upbeat sounds that dominate the airwaves, “Film” provides a grip of momentary reflection with a perfect blend of Xavier’s in-depth notions and RJ’s gravitating board work.
