Compton High School Receives Intuit Food Truck to Enhance Youth Skills in Finance and Entrepreneurship

Compton High School’s Culinary arts students, despite their passion for whipping up gourmet dishes, faced a significant challenge: their program lacked a kitchen for over a decade. But thanks to Intuit, a transformative solution arrived on wheels.

On September 22, Compton Unified School District welcomed its first food truck, courtesy of Intuit. This isn’t just any food truck, but a state-of-the-art mobile kitchen, letting students turn their culinary dreams into delectable realities. This initiative doesn’t only enhance their culinary skills but also equips them with the skills to run and manage a thriving food truck enterprise.

Intuit’s initiative goes beyond just Compton. It’s an ambitious program aimed at integrating technology, entrepreneurship, and hands-on culinary training. Along with Compton, school districts in Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, and Reno will soon benefit from this program in the 2023-2024 academic year. The selection of these districts aligns with Intuit’s mission to uplift and empower students in areas that need it the most, with a vision of impacting 5,000 students in its inaugural year.

This initiative serves as a comprehensive learning platform. While culinary students create mouthwatering dishes, graphic design enthusiasts can craft the truck’s aesthetics and menus. Simultaneously, students focused on finance and business can dive deep into the economics of running a food truck, from budgeting to marketing. Even automotive enthusiasts have a role, ensuring the trucks are in tip-top shape. With tools like QuickBooks Online and the GOPayment Point of Sale app, students get a holistic experience of managing a business’s financial aspects.

In essence, this program isn’t just about food. It’s about molding a new wave of entrepreneurs and business leaders, ready to make their mark in the world.
