Watch Zaytoven’s NPR Tiny Desk Contest

Feb 28, 2019

Zaytoven, the celebrated church organist and pianist, who also happens to be one of the biggest producers of trap music, leads a talented group of musicians that include a drummer (Bernard “TreWay” Lambert), flautist (Elena Pinderhughes), guitarist (Neil Garrard) and DJ (DJ Spinz), in a soulful and melodic NPR Tiny Desk concert.

Playing the piano on the instrumental versions of three of his top hits, “Lay Up,” “Peacoat” and “Mo Reala,” all of which feature his longtime collaborator Future, the performance highlights why Zaytoven’s sound has been imitated over the past decade.

The Grammy-winning hitmaker provides a bit of commentary between each track that gives insight on how he brings his symphonic sound to hip-hop, as well as how he has been able to reinvent himself over the years.
