5 Takeaways from the LaRussell Interview

No LaRussell interview is ever the same! Earlier this week, the prolific Vallejo artist stopped by the FAB Factory Studios for a conversation with Home Grown Radio. The tone was set off early when LaRussell admits independence was not the intent. Although much knowledge was shared, here are 5 memorable takeaways from the conversation. Itā€™s different!

1. Culture Canā€™t be on A Spreadsheet

Donā€™t get it wrong, the independent rapper is still open to a deal but it has to make sense. ā€œMaking senseā€ means taking into account cultural capital and impact. Do labels take culture into account or only streaming? This topic led to a DJ Hed quotable ā€œYou canā€™t put culture on a spreadsheet.ā€ Some things you will not see on paper, and culture is one of them.

2. DJ Hed is not Good at mathā€¦ BUT ask him about aqueducts

If LaRussell dropped his first album in 2018 and in 2023 has a total of 23, how many does he average each year? Use a calculator, donā€™t ask DJ Hed. Regardless, the Good Compenny owner plans to continue his historic run and give people more opportunities to become a fan. Actually, LaRussell gives us a number of how many albums he plans to release.

3. Balance is never still

A Home Grown Radio interview is not complete without Chuck asking for dad-vice. The young fatherā€™s advice is always do your best but never lean too hard in either way between family and career. Itā€™s about the balancing act between your needs and those of others. LaRussell also takes us back to the moment he realized fatherhood is a beautiful thing.

4. Montana is near Idaho

In case you didnā€™t know, Montana is near Idaho. The Bay Area artist confirms this with his photographic memory, and heā€™s never been to either place! The song writer explains how he uses his photographic memory to remember verses.  Remember he has 23 albums!

5. 2023 Goal: Oracle Arena!

Good Compenny just announced dates for the iconic LaRussell Backyard shows. A residency of 5 shows from April 2nd until August 6th. The Pergola is not the only place LaRussell wants to perform this year, with the Oracle Arena set on his vision board. The energetic performer lets us know that he would like to celebrate his birthday by selling out the Oracle. Will he do it? We will have to wait and see, but we do know: Nothing is unattainable for LaRussell.

See the interview below and share with us the gems you find in this visit.
