The 146-day strike from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) against major Hollywood studios, is finally coming to an end following an agreement to a tentative deal that would increase payments, increase residuals and create new rules surrounding the use of artificial intelligence.
Writer’s across the nation are happy and so is 50 Cent.
The rapper went on social media to say, “I’m glad this sh*t is over” on Sep. 24, taking the opportunity to also promote his appearance in the Expendables 4 and season two of the Power Book IV: Force on STARZ.
During the strike members of the guild were prohibited from promoting current projects under commercial studios among other things, which is why Fifty was so happy to finally be able to promote his work. Or so he thought.
Although the strike is essentially over, the union still has to approve the proposed three-year contract mentioned above. After that, Hollywood still has to reckon with the actors’ strike under Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), which recently authorized a strike against the video game industry.
With SAG-AFTRA still on strike, Fifty promoting his acting work in The Expendables and Power Book IV: Force, may have been a blunder on his end as he is an actor on both productions, not a writer. Like the WGA, SAG-AFTRA prohibits its members from promoting current projects under commercial studios during a strike.
Now that the writers’ strike is over, what are you excited to see developed onto the big screens? Send us a tweet about it.
