2Pac’s Brother Shares How Pac Would Have Felt About The Weeknd’s Grammys Boycott

Mar 19, 2021 , ,

Despite being the biggest event in music, The Grammy Awards Ceremony is being boycotted by “Blinding Lights” singer The Weeknd over its opaque and little-understood nomination process. 2Pac’s brother Mopreme Shakur shares how Pac would have felt about The Weeknd’s controversial decision.

Shakur says Pac would have supported The Weeknd’s decision to boycott the Grammys, and fight for change at the Recording Academy (the non-profit group behind the awards). He says the late rapper would “have a lot to say” about the Grammys, with concerns about race and representation in the selection process.

Considering Pac hasn’t won a Grammy himself, it’s not unreasonable to think he would feel the same way about the awards show today.

Mopreme also highlights how other legendary rappers – such as Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes – haven’t gotten any awards during the peak of their careers. Even Nas had only received his first-ever Grammy award this year.
