The Bay Area is coming together for the Tales of the Town album!
Tales of the Town is a multimedia project from Hella Black Podcast and the People’s Program, led by Abbas Muntaqim and Delency Parham. The multimedia project shares the history of Black Oakland through the experience and lens of people who have lived in Oakland for generations. The project includes a podcast, music album, book, and film.
On September 20th, Hella Black Podcast released the first podcast episode of the Tales of the Town project. The first episode examines the migration of Black Southerners to the Bay Area.
In the first episode, the hosts shared a preview of the album accompanying the podcast under the same title, which will be released on October 14th. The album will include 11-original songs from Bay artists Rex Life Raj, G-Eazy, P-Lo, LaRussell, Guapdad4000 and more. All proceeds will go towards the People’s Program in Oakland, a grassroots organization that has programs like the People’s Community Mobile Health Clinic and the People’s Breakfast Oakland.
The first single, “F*ck 12 Freestyle” by LaRussell and Guapdad4000, is set to be released this Friday. In the meantime, make sure to check out the Tales of the Town podcast here.
