The Los Angeles Unified School District is currently experiencing one of the largest strikes yet.
The strike comes after the Service Employees International Union Local 99 members said they would stage a protest due to the district’s alleged unfair labor practices and wages. SEIU .The SEIU represents roughly 30,000 teacher’s aids, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers and other staff. With this news, many parents and students are worried about resources that will be taken away due to the strike. With those being food and after school care services. While Fellow LAUSD Educator are standing with their fellow staff members, not everyone is in favor of this strike. Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho took to twitter, stating “We should not be depriving our students of an opportunity to learn,” Carvalho said. “We can can find a solution that dignifies our workforce and avoids an unnecessary shutdown of school.” LAUSD Superintendent

Knowing that many establishments have decided to create an abundance of resources, if the strike does in fact take place for the remainder of the school week. Over 21 parks and recreations will be offering grab and go options, which was first implemented during the 2020 pandemic school closures. It has also just been released that the Los Angeles County Zoo is offering free admission for students in grades k-12. Chaperones will only have to pay a cover charge of five dollars.
