Netflix brought the world of their upcoming science-fantasy blockbuster, Rebel Moon, to this year’s ComplexCon at the Long Beach Convention Center from Nov. 18 to 19. The interactive trailer experience immersed participants in their own Rebel Moon movie trailer complete with wardrobe, makeup, and even weapons.
The activation, which is the largest at ComplexCon, featured life-size mannequins of the movie’s characters, dressed in costumes from the film. Participants got a chance to embody these characters themselves, with robes, shawls, and a plethora of other accessories, which included hand combat weapons like axes.
This elaborate setup, conceived over three months and executed within two-thirds of the year, offered guests a first of its kind opportunity to be part of their own Rebel Moon movie trailer. The figurines’ clothing drew inspiration from Korean designs, rustic warriors, and even WWI attire, which reflects the diverse and rich universe of Rebel Moon.
Rebel Moon, directed by Zack Snyder, is an intergalactic science-fantasy story about a warrior named Kora, who must bring together rebel fighters from across the war torn galaxy to fight off an invasion against a tyrannical ruler. The star-studded cast includes actors Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, and Anthony Hopkins.
The movie hits theaters Dec. 15 for a limited theatrical release before its exclusive Netflix streaming release on Dec. 22.
This is Snyder’s eleventh directorial outing in a catalog that includes action-packed blockbusters like Man of Steel, 300, and Justice League, which sparked a cultural movement that led to its director’s release famously known as “The Snyder Cut” in 2021.
Rebel Moon is part one of a two-part endeavor from Netflix to establish a new cinematic universe with Snyder’s action oriented directorial vision at the helm with aid from themes established in classic fantasy franchises like Star Wars.
