Mozzy‘s detail-rich rhymes contain multitudes, transforming tales of trauma and triumph into life-affirming West Coast anthems. The Sacramento street hero’s latest album, INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS 2, probes deep into the recesses of Mozzy’s mind, exploring traumatic memories of his youth, and how they echo into the present day. Along with the release, Mozzy shares the video for “WILL IT EVER STOP RAININ,” a heartbreaking highlight from the album.
INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS 2 is the follow-up to April’s INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS, discussing similar themes but with refined focus, and even more emotional transparency. While the first project only welcomed features on 4 of its 18 tracks, the sequel is more collaborative in nature, welcoming guest stars from all regions to share their experiences alongside Mozzy’s.
The complementary points-of-view pay immediate dividends on “23 AND 1,” a poignant collaboration with YFN Lucci, which reached #19 on YouTube’s Trending chart for music and generated over 4 million streams across platforms. Elsewhere on the project, Mozzy taps ATL heavy-hitter Hunxho to add melodic pathos to “ALL I GOT,” paves the way for Boosie Badazz to process his pain on “SUPER SOAKER,” and welcomes Nardo Wick to be the devil on his shoulder on the sinister “STUTTER.”
Each song, solo or collaborative, communicates a compelling narrative, whether it imagines the mind of a hustler trying to get out of the mud (on “4 A NECKLACE“), reflects on the allure of breaking the law (“CAN’T SAVE ME”), or it imagines an alternate reality where Mozzy had an easy life (“PRAYER”).
