When we last heard about Mr. DeMarco Smith, we were introduced to the creation of his ground-breaking history book series South Central Is Mecca Pt.1, a three part series that guides it’s readers through a “hood” investigation of South Central, covering everything from legendary landmarks like Jesse Owens Park and Fresh and Meaty, to the fearless black leaders that laid the foundation for us to be excellent.
Presented by Maintain The Mystery, a multimedia platform created to celebrate the artists and entrepreneurs coming out of LA, and TenSixteen Industries, the books’ Summer 22′ release was a huge deal in the community, making what I believe to be an everlasting mark that will forever remind natives and visitors alike of the true value the city holds.
Well, that value just went up another notch with the brands new partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District. For the first time ever, Audobon Middle School will implement South Central Is Mecca history and coloring books into the classroom as well as the school cirriculum.
The MTM founder took to Twitter earlier with the breaking news.
Miriam Haregot, brand CEO also expressed her excitement yesterday on Twitter saying, “DeMarco Smith and I really gon’ be at Audobon 2x a week teaching them kids about South Central history via Maintain The Mystery starting Wednesday!!!!!!! Professor caps are on and activated!”
Maintain The Mystery will also debut their first ‘in-school appearance’ with a curated lesson experience presented by DeMarco himself, including upcoming projects “South Central Is Mecca Pt. 2 and “StoLAnd Greatness” expected to drop later this year.
