In a year beginning with devastation and fear, Charlie Bereal shields Los Angeles from anxiety’s further expansion through songs of hope and unity in his latest album, Walk With The Father.
With a music career of over 20 years, Bereal has worked with stars such as Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Jay-Z and many more. His first hit was co-producing Mýa’s “My Love Is Like… Wo”. Now at the front stage, the Grammy-nominated singer premieres his first album under Death Row/gamma. The 13-track R&B soul album is co-produced with Josef Liemberg, including features from JMo & The Greats and Snoop.
Personally impacted by the Altadena fires, Bereal introduces the album with calls of collective action in songs “Hope” and “Some People”. On January 13th on Instagram Charlie wrote “One thing I know is that my city is strong and we’re finding HOPE!”
Included in the album is the project-title track, speaking on the hardships of the city and roll-calling the communities that inspire the music.
Through the album, Bereal takes us between harp love strings and horns to energized distorted riffs. The project concludes with Charlie calling “Come and go with me!” Yes… music can inspire and comfort, but that’s only half the response. What actions can we do next?
