Home Grown Radio: We just saw you perform for first time at Baja beach Dest. How does it feel to be one of the most prominent EDM, Latino, Mexican American kid out of Los Angeles?

Deorro: “It was a lot of fun. Es un honor estar aquí con toda la gente representando la cultura en Baja Beach. The beautiful culture, the beautiful flag. Making people fall in love with la música and viendo como la gente apoya y me mandan amor en el internet o en el stage, me mandan corazones. Eso es algo increíble es un sueño la neta.”

Home Grown Radio: What you tell that Deorro from LA that had dreams of making it big?

Deorro: “I’ll tell him saves que bro, there’s plenty to offer. I mean remember yo me acuerdo estaba en un momento donde donde no sabía qué más tenía que ofrecerle a la música. Pero lo único que me faltaba era conectarme con mi cultura, my roots.”

Home Grown Radio: When you’re working with someone, whether that is another artist, producer, what comes to mind? What’s authentic to you?

Deorro: “It depends. When I wanted to work with Los Toucans de Tijuana, I studied their work and music for years. How they play los arreglos, el bajo, sexton. Mario Quinteros is one of the best writers en la musica and to be there I see how real and authentic they are. I also connect with them on a personal level.”

Home Grown Radio: Now we’re talking about all this notable people and artist. Who’s still on your list that you still need to work with?

Deorro: “Oh my god… I’m such a big music lover. I love music so the list is long. I want to work with rock en español to reggae and cumbia, bachata, merengue. The list is long! For sure, Rock en Español… Maná, Caféta Cuba, Enanitos Verdes, Hombres Gs. Y por fin, me conecté con La Sonora Dinamita. I reached out to them, gave them the idea, they loved it. Y ya estamos trabajando en algo bien, bien bonito.”

Home Grown Radio: Last but not least, what would you tell the young brown and black kids who listen to your music and have dreams of making it big?

Deorro: One of the things that I that I did was I looked inwards. I love making other people happy. I also really allowed myself to be me and that’s something that I really encourage people to do. To not be afraid to be themselves. Who cares what people say. Just do whatever makes you happy.”
