Desmond “DezzieGee” Gooden has been putting on Westcoast artists with his freestyle series, “A Trip to the Corner Store” since 2021. The first episode debuted on September 22 with rapper EPICMUSTDIE. When he dropped his freestyle over Drake’s classic “Champagne Poetry,” I knew this series and the man behind it was destined for greatness. Now, almost 100 episodes later, it’s safe to say that Dezzie’s consistency as well as his current level of success and influence was definitely worth the ride.
A Trip to the Corner Store is a freestyle series on YouTube that highlights and features West Coast artists covering classic hip-hop instrumentals.
Since last year, the Long Beach native has been showing his audience the peak of his Corner Store LA brand growth on Instagram and Twitter, proving that he is indeed a legend on the rise. From producing a total of 90 episodes last year in early December and securing 2.52 thousand subscribers on YouTube to his most recent milestone of hitting 10k followers on The Corner Store (@thecornerstorela) DezzieGee continues to remind us why he’s the best in the game and that he’s only getting better.
Some of my favorite “A Trip to the Corner Store” freestyles include the likes of LA Wray, Yoshi Vintage, P1, and Konsole.
A TRIP TO THE CORNER STORE: WRAY 020
A TRIP TO THE CORNER STORE: YOSHI VINTAGE 028
A TRIP TO THE CORNER STORE: P1 048
A TRIP TO THE CORNER STORE: KONSOLE 090
With “raprenuer” Price in the 96 spot dropping bars over Mob Deep’s “Quiet Storm” and 4 more trips to go, it’s safe to say that Mr. Corner Store has 2023 on lock and we can’t wait to see who’s next in the passenger seat! Congratulations Dezzie on hitting 10k and thank you for your positive contribution to the rap game and the enhancement of black media platforms!
