Imagine going through a time travel machine of Los Angeles? Well, now that’s possible thanks to film producer Demarco Smith.
He just created a history book series titled South Central Mecca Pt 1. The series is presented as a coffee table/magazine type of book. It guides readers through a “hood” investigation of South Central. Part 1 is a one hundred year breakdown spanning from 1900-1977, which will highlight the truths behind legendary “hood” landmarks, some including Jessie Owens Park and Fresh and Meaty. Part 1 is separated into three parts, categorized by seasons. Season 1 is Rise of Mecca (1900-1945) , Season 2 Rise of Westside (1945-1967) ,and Season 3 Rise of CONTELPRO & P-FUNK (1968-1977).
Demarco Smith created this book series to pay homage to his African American ancestry and the importance it’s held in South Central. It’s dedicated to his great grandmother Eulise Barbara Dillard.
