Last night was a remarkable night for our people of color. Jennifer Lewis in the picture above stole the red carpet show with her controversial outfit and also in every interview she reflected on the time we live in now. Expressing in her interviews with the press that “these aren’t dark times these are awakening times”. And at the Emmy’s it was awakening time for a lot of our favorite black people in movies and television. Starting off with Thandie Newton who won for Best Supporting Actress in the hit drama series “Westworld”, Samira Wiley for Best Guest Actress in the drama series “The Handmaid’s Tale”, Ron Cephas Jones for Best Guest Actor in the drama series “This is us”, Tiffany Haddish for Best Guest Actress in the drama series ” Saturday Night Live”, Katt Williams for the hit comedy series “Atlanta”, RuPaul going home with two Emmy’s for Best Reality Competition Program in “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and Best Host for “RuPaul’s Drag Race,W. Kamau Bell for Best Unstructured Reality Program in “United Shades of America”, and last but not less with the biggest standing ovation for an actress who has been in over 50 movies and television shows combined and who has been working in the entertainment business since 1985 with the hit tv show
“227” to now being rewarded with her second Emmy for Lead Actress in a Limited Series “Seven Seconds”. With over 20 black people being nominated for so many awards from lead to supporting actors in the categories of comedy, drama or even directing of episodes. It truly feels like people are starting to take notice of our true talent within the entertainment business and we are now sitting in the front row. Jennifer Lewis said it best “these aren’t dark times these are awakening times”.
