It’s the holiday season, but TikTokers are not limiting themselves to only Christmas trends and songs. Instead, they’re keeping all the trendy content going, especially Dreamville’s JID’s “Surround Sound,” which passed Mariah Carey’s infamous Christmas song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on Billboard’s TikTok song list.
The trend includes setting up a camera with tape in a bird’s eye view and dancing to JID’s song “Surround Song” with a group of people or by themselves. Professional TikTokers have also switched it up by using the sound to promote their businesses.
“Surround Sound” is a single off of the 2022 album, The Forever Story, featuring 21 Savage and Baby Tate. It also includes samples from Aretha Franklin’s “One Step Ahead,” released in 1965, and Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty.”
According to Billboard, “Surround Sound” reigns over Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which spends a second week at No. 2 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50. It remains the leader of the pack when it comes to holiday tunes …”
Per Billboard, The TikTok Billboard Top 50 charts are reviewed weekly and showcase all TikTok trending videos and engagement ranked in the U.S.
The single has not only charted on the TikTok list but has also ranked No. 64 on the Billboard Hot 100. Recently, JID took to Instagram to post a life “lately” dump of photos that included a screenshot of “Surround Sound” reaching No. 64 on the charts and a video of him recreating the trend with fans at a show.
“This trend that has came from this fckin song,” he expressed in the video. “Ya’ll took this shit and made that shit global as fck. We gonna get creative and try the challenge so we can post this shit online. You know what I’m saying, it would be hard if all of us did this shit together.”
With “Surround Sound” being such a Hip-Hop hit on TikTok, do you plan on trying the trend this Christmas holiday with your family and friends?
