Joyner Lucas paid tribute to the late Mac Miller on his fifth anniversary of his death in his latest release, “Seventeen,” where he raps over Mac’s “Donald Trump.”

The Not Now, I’m Busy artist shows love to the late rapper from the beginning as he starts off the track with, “RIP Mac Miller.” His take on this track is a little different yet holds almost the same concept as Miller did on the original track, which makes it special.

The Massachusetts native reflects on his life and compares where he is now to what he dreamt of when he was younger. He expresses how he got the girls, the money and the flashy lifestyle he always wanted.

“They never knew that one day all this shit I be dreamin’ about, I’d be livin’ it,” Joyner Lucas raps. “Jump out the window and took the advantage, I know my potential is limitless.”

In the visual, you can find the “Your Heart” rapper wearing a Mac Miller t-shirt as he raps on a boat and fixes his shirt so the camera can show love to the late artist. He also stands with a large community around him, similar to how Mac had in his video for “Donald Trump.”

“I used to pray for shit like this when I was seventeen,” Joyner Lucas raps. “Hit the block and made a plan, I hope it set me free.”

The late Swimming rapper passed five years ago on September 7, 2018 from an overdose. His music has been kept alive by the Mac Miller Estate through music releases, such as Circles in 2020, and recently collaborating with NPR to bring his Tiny Desk performance on vinyl. Mac Miller’s music is timeless and fans will forever cherish his discography, just as Joyner Lucas did in “Seventeen.”
