Between crowd surfing, mosh pits to his song āTomagachiā, and having a fan perform with him āGeekedā; K. Charles exclaims to Inglewood, āMy name is K. Charles! And this is my come up! Iām giving you my all!ā The Saturday afternoon performance at Rolling Loud Cali 2023, helped bring the energetic tone to the festival.
The Miami artist is not attached to stages. A broken boundary best encapsulated by the cover of his latest project, L.F.C, also known as Live From the Crowd. Similar to his Rolling Loud performance, the project brings the sweat and smiles of the crowd to any location you listen.
We were able to catch up with K. Charles after his Saturday performance at Rolling Loud’s Levis Stage.
Tony: How was your performance?
K. Charles: “Awesome. I think it was crazy.”
T: Whatās a song that reminds you of home?
K.C: “Iāll say it has to be Trick Daddy, you feel me. It has to be Trick Love The Kids. This is the life I live.”
T: Do you have any pre-show rituals?
K.C: “I donāt eat anything. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink. I don’t do any of that stuff. Regardless of the performance. I donāt do anything that day. I just fast, and then after [the performance] I do everything else.”
T: What is the approach behind that?
K.C: “Itās just in my mentality, to give everything I have in my body currently, and not put anything extra. So it doesnāt mess up with my vibes. “
T: Whatās the most difficult thing about being an artist?
K.C: “I think the most difficult thing is just being a human, while being a different type of entity. My name is K. Charles, but people hardly have a day to day with me. They donāt know what I wake up to. It’s about being normal, while at the same time being attentive to your job and career. “
T: What has been your biggest career highlight?
K.C: “Gaining fans. Thatās the hardest part for an artist, to gain a secure and solid fan base.”
