At first glance, Alexcis may seem like your typical artist, but the San Jose-berd and Arizona-raised native is more than just that. He’s a visionary.
He pairs different sounds and melodies with authentic songwriting. Alexcis’ sound mixes pop and R&B with hip-hop and Spanish music elements. “Growing up, I remember my mom playing all sorts of music. My step pops [dad] has all the dope sh*t, he told Home Grown Radio during an interview when our very own’s Lupe LLerenas visited him while he was recording music in the studio.
It was a gloomy Monday afternoon when I went to the studio to have our conversation. Ready to ask my questions away, I quickly observed the dimmed lights and the blasting sounds coming out of that studio room. I asked Alexis what are you working on, and he replied, “Some dope new sh*t. Wanna hear it?” I responded with a yes, and he started playing the music he was working on with me. One song led to another and another one, which made me realize he had songs for days.
He pressed record and showed me the music video to “Hotel Lobby” off his newly released EP project, Who Can I Run To? As we watched “Hotel Lobby,” he began sharing stories of that music video shoot. He said, “You know I wasn’t supposed to wear that. I just had a crazy night the day before that I said f*ck it, but now that I look at it, it looks fire.”
The music video, which features Los Angeles producer and DJ Cypress Moreno alongside Trinidad Cardona, takes place in a hotel. Some beautiful women surround Alexis as he enters a hotel room. Halfway through the video, they explore LA’s streets late at night.
A few other songs on this new EP, Who Can I Run To?, are ” Nissan” and “Party All The Time” with LA’s own Zoe Osama. “Tongue,” “Better Yet,” “RIP,” “What Is Life,” and “Lonely On The Moon.” The entire project has 12 tracks, and given by the titles of some of the songs, they carry deep, vulnerable feelings.
“Songs just come from my experiences and the sh*t I do,” he said. “Like when I say ‘girls want drugs…” Like every damn b*tch, I done meet recently just wants to do cocaine. It’s crazy.”
As for, Who Can I Run To?“ that also another project that Alexcis will keep close to him because “it means a lot.” He said, “To me, Who Can I Run To? is really like once you get home from the club, when the lights are off, you’re just there by yourself and you ask yourself like damn… Who Can I Run To? When everything’s all said and done, like who’s really there? I want this project to be like yeah, I got hella friends, but who’s really my friend?”
When I asked about his music influences, he expressed his admiration for artists he’s already worked with or will eventually do so. Alexcis explained how he “crafts his melodic style with deep vulnerability and introspection combined with influences from greats like T-Pain and Tory Lanez.”
In fact, believe it or not, Alexcis is a huge country music fan too. He shared that he was making a country beat too and offered to sing some of the lyrics in that moment.
As Alexcis continues to pen his pen with music about his life experience and topics related to his fans. He wants to continue to crave his lane in the music world. He wanted to pave the way for other up-and-coming artists, who, at some point, felt like he was while getting started in music.
