Even as Mozzy continues to rise in the rap game, the Sacramento native always has time to give back to his home town. Speaking his truth atop a breezy, guitar-laden instrumental, Mozzy shares “Free Juju,” a new single and music video.
The song is dedicated to Juju, a young Oak Park native who Mozzy took under his wing, and attempted to set on a righteous path,. Unfortunately, Juju fell back into old habits, and now languishes in jail without bail.
“Juju is a child of the trenches, someone who I damn near raised,” says Mozzy. “In my community, there are lots of kids whose parents are absent, whether they’re in jail or on dope. Juju was one of the kids from my community who I grabbed off the streets. I brought him on tour, helped him stay on his feet. He recently graduated from high school. I wasn’t able to save him. If they’d just given him bail, I would’ve grabbed him, put him in a headlock and got him righteous.”
“Free Juju” continues a productive 2023 for Mozzy, following the heartfelt “If I Die Right Now” and the sinister Lil Zay Osama collab “Ain’t On Sh*t.”
