BEYONCÉ MAKES HISTORY

  • With this being the singer’s 32nd Grammy award, Beyoncé has surpassed Quincy Jones, holding the the place of most Grammy awards to a single artist. 

HOW THE WEST WAS ONE

  • Dr.Dre has received the first ever recording academy Inaugural Impact Award for all of his contributions throughout his 40 year career. From now on, this award will be named after Dre.

COMPTON STRIKES AGAIN

  • After a five year hiatus, Kendrick Lamar racked up 8 nominations. Winning for Rap Song of the Year and Rap album of the year for “Mr.Morale and the Big Steppers.” 

HARRY’S HOUSE 

  • After a 30 night show run between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Harry takes over again winning album of the year for his album, “Harry’s House.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HIP HOP

  • HipHop has turned 50 years old! To commemorate the milestone, a star studded performance took place at the Grammys. Starting from the impact of the 80s all the way to current times. Which included performances from Black Thought, Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Peppa, Rakim, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Scarface, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Method Man, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, Nelly, Too Short, Lil baby, Uzi and Glorilla. The tribute was exactly 14 minutes long.

IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME

  • Lizzo has won Record of The Year for her single “ About Damn Time” which is featured on her album Special. Later on in the night takes us to church with a stellar performance of “Special” and “About Damn Time.” 

VIOLA MAKES HERstory 

  • Viola Davis has officially reached EGOT status (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). She won for her audiobook in the category of Best audio book narration, and storytelling recording. 

A SALUTE TO MOTOWN

  • Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson come together to perform a medley of hits, honoring Motown CEO Berry Gordy.

TO THE STARS WE LOST

  • In a beautiful tribute performance the recording academy paid tribute to all of the stars we have lost in the last year. The segment included performances from Kacey Musgraves, Maverick City’s Naomi Rose and Chandler Moore, Quavo, Sheryl Crow , and Mike Fleetwood. 

GOD DID

  • DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, JayZ, Friday and John Legend close out the ceremony performing DJ Khaled’s Grammy nominated “God Did.”
