As Lauren London said “from 60th St to a Star on Hollywood.”

On August 15, we celebrated the heavenly birthday of Nipsey Hussle. The late-rapper, who would have turned 37-years-old was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Hundreds gathered on Hollywood Boulevard to attend the ceremony, in which Hussle’s grandmother, Margaret Boutte, accepted the star on behalf of the family. Hussle’s sister, Samantha Smith, along with Hussle’s longtime girlfriend, Lauren London, also attended and offered remarks at the event, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Hussle’s sister Samantha shared how proud she was of her brother.

“Nip the Great, look at who you are, look at what you did. I’m in awe but I’m not surprised. You’ve been a star in my eyes, the family’s eyes, God’s eyes, far before the accolades caught up,” Smith said. “You’ve affected the lives of so many in the realist ways — the realist ways, the realist ways. You’ve been a pillar in our family, in the community.”

And at the ceremony, the Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson declared August 15 to be “Nipsey Hussle Day.”

Home Grown Radio made its way to celebrate Nipsey Hussle and spoke with fans who expressed what it meant for him to get this Hollywood star.

Ron from Los Angeles said Hussle was a man of his word. “This a guy that stood for his pride. He saying it in all of his songs. It sad that he had to go out in his own community but it showed you how much he cared for his community. This star means a lot you know, it’s more than a star, it’s the Galaxy right here man.

Another fan who commutes daily for work said Hussle is a part of his soundtrack. “I listen to Nipsey every day. I drive from the OC to LA and that’s like an hour drive and I listen to him like every single day he’s motivates me this means the world to me.”

Shanya from Compton also visited the star and said Hussle will continue to be an inspiration for many. “There’s only legends of this Hollywood of walk of fame. For little black kids growing up, they’re going to see this and be like okay. So at the end of the day, it’s Black excellence when I look at it.”

Without a doubt, it’s safe to say that Nipsey Hussle’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star is a long time coming and it means a lot to the city of Los Angeles and his fans.
