GRAMMY Award-winning Regional Mexican singer-songwriter Lupillo Rivera has assembled a cross-cultural All Star Team comprised of Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill’s B-Real, and Mexican emcees Alemán and Santa Fe Klan for a brand new single called “Grandes Ligas.”
The genre-bending song unites music fans across generations, cultures, and regions for a bilingual soundtrack of accomplishment and innovation of two worlds colliding. “Grandes Ligas” serves as a centerpiece of a cultural movement that has seen a growth spike in recent years of Regional Mexican acts collaborating with American rappers.
During a recent virtual listening session, Lupillo shared how he grew appreciation for Hip-Hop at such an early age. In fact, he mentioned how he attended the same high school as Snoop Dogg in Long Beach during the 90s. “I’ve always had a love for Rap since the Eazy-E and N.W.A. days,” Lupillo said. “You know Snoop [Dogg] and I were classmates. We had the same classes together and went to the same high school.”
Lupillo also explained how teaming up with these emcees was a no-brainer. “You know with Alemán and Santa Fe Klan, they’re such talented artists… Santa Fe plays the accordion, he knows norteña music very well and knows how to do harmonies. Alemàn has been involved in this music since a young age, and well, B-Real, you know he’s B-Real. You can’t argue with that and then you have Snoop [Dogg] coming through. It’s beautiful how this collab came about!”
“It was important that this song be done with 90s West Coast-style production because it is a timeless record with some heavy hitters that are legends in their respective genres, this is the big leagues. From the moment I came up with the idea for the collab I was set on it embodying the golden era of West Coast rap,” explained George Prajin, who produced “Grandes Ligas.” “Alemán and Santa Fe Klan shine on the record alongside Lupillo, Snoop, and B-Real. My team and I are working on an EP with some more top-level artists, and we are all excited about what’s to come.”
Safe to say, this is a collaboration is making its mark in Regional Mexican and Hip-Hop. Blending two different cultures with one love, music.
