Inglewood native SiR has made a triumphant return to the music scene with his latest album, “HEAVY,” released on March 20. Marking his first project in five years, the 16-track album boasts an impressive lineup of features, including Ty Dolla $ign, Isaiah Rashad, Anderson .Paak, Ab-Soul, and Scribz Riley.”
The past five years have been a tumultuous journey for SiR, marred by a deep depression that led him down a path of self-medication and addiction. However, the Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) artist is back like he never left.
During a interview with the Recording Academy SiR said, that “This album is as personal as I’ll ever get in my music.” “Heavy” is a raw and honest reflection of the singer’s life, documenting his struggles and triumphs. The 37-year-old artist’s journey to self-discovery and healing is evident in the depth and vulnerability of his lyrics in this album.
A standout track from the album, “Six Whole Days,” has a special familial touch. SiR revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the song features his mother playing the keys and singing, his sister on the strings, and his uncle on the bass. When a fan asked if he produced the song, SiR responded that he and Kal Banx were behind the production, showcasing his versatility as an artist.
SiR comes from a family deeply infused with music, growing up surrounded by musical influences and encouragement. And here’s a little fun fact if you didn’t know, rapper D Smoke and R&B singer Davion Farris are his brothers.
