On Friday, February 2, Nina Deuce curated by the visionary Khrissy B held its 7th Annual Music ‘N Media event at Sole Folks in Leimert Park. The event was a vibrant gathering that celebrated the fusion of music and media.
The event featured performances, panels that peeled back the layers of the industry’s current dynamics and a variety of vendors including Goriela Grub, Bob’s Cajun Boil, NitzByNat jewelry and accessories, and Queen Squeeze Lemonade. Attendees, from music fans to media pros, enjoyed a rich day of creativity, networking, and collaboration, underlining the event’s role in enhancing the West Coast’s artistic scene.
Emcee Classiq set the tone for the event as the emcee, while DJ Deezy provided a musical backdrop that engaged the audience from the beginning and during the transitions between panels.
The first panel, “Masters at The Level Up,” was expertly hosted by Tyler Khimani and featured an impressive lineup including Loren Lorosa, a Reporter/Producer and Founder of Brown Girl Grinding; Kenny Hamilton, a Music Executive and Entrepreneur; and Joseph Raiford, Vice President of Music Programming for Sirius XM/Pandora. This engaging discussion focused on strategies for personal and professional growth within one’s field, emphasizing the importance of self-branding, embracing risks, and pursuing passions.
Artists from the R&B Lounge took to the stage with dynamic performances that truly engaged the audience. The lineup, featuring Leah Writes, Davion Farris, Isaiah Jaay, Zeke, Jake&Papa, and Sha’Leah Nikole, showcased a blend of soulful rhythms and charming vocals, highlighting the depth and diversity of R&B talent at the event.
The second panel, “Digital Creators & Taste Makers,” led by Chellz Evette, brought together Buzy Barker, Media Personality/Content Creator known from TheShadeRoom, BET, Dash Radio; Lefty, A&R at Roc Nation; Courtney Bee, comedian from Wild ‘N Out, The Daily Cannon, That Damn Michael Che Show on HBO, Trap Karaoke; and Demi Lobo, DJ, digital creator, LA Clippers. This session dived into strategies for effectively engaging with leading companies and brands within the digital landscape, offering an invaluable perspective for navigating the digital-driven industry.
During a brief intermission at the event, Home Grown Radio’s own DJ Hed took over the 1s and 2s.
DJ Battlecat hosted a live producer listening session where producers DoBetter, Low The Great, and Don Wil On It presented their beats for critique. This segment offered a significant opportunity for these talents to receive feedback from Battlecat, a renowned figure in the music industry, marking a valuable learning experience for the aspiring producers.
