The Cali Conference with Mistah F.A.B.

“Look at the last time Cali linked in and combined. You had Dre and you had Pac. Yes, we claiming Pac. When you had them two, it was ‘Cali Love’.” Mistah F.A.B. reminds Home Grown of the impact the West Coast has when united.

More recently at a 2016 height, look at “Why You Always Hatin?”. We had YG bigger than ever with a sophomore classic, Kamaiyah putting Oakland on her back with the hook, and Drake saying “on mommas” in a lambo riding through LA. A moment.

In the latest Home Grown Radio Interview, Mistah F.A.B. stops by Fab Factory to convince Chuck and Hed to spearhead, The Cali Conference. What if the networking happening in Austin, Texas for SXSW happened in Fresno, California? Maybe we would have had a Dr. Dre and Too Short song by now. Based on the conversation between books, Fabby Davis would lead two workshops at The CC: How to Not Be an E-mail Rapper and Dope Era, Make Your Own.

Workshop #1: How to Not Be an E-mail Rapper

An e-mail rapper is an artist with music stored in emails, and all unreleased. The Oakland artist explains how if an artist passes, their unreleased art and money disappear. It is important for artist to let their art live in the world, and understand their role as creators. F.A.B. then dives deeper on why it’s important to take advantage of our relationships and proximity to great people. When Hyphy was at the forefront, Fabby was with Mac Dre everyday. Do you know how many songs they recorded together?

Workshop #2: Dope Era, Make Your Own

Dope Era represents everything the industry did not want or let Fabby Davis do, from owning his own clothing store to owning a museum. This mindset is rooted in the Black Panther Party. Fabby credits Huey Newton as the blueprint with the Panther’s educational and breakfast programs in the 60s and 70s. The documentation allows future reinvention. How can artist today continue that legacy?

Listen to Professor F.A.B. break down these two topics in his Home Grown Interview.

The theme of the conference: West Coast Unity. Contrary to popular belief, California artist get along and collaborate often and from all angles of the musical spectrum. Listen to the playlist below to hear the soundtrack of the conference. Hopefully, sometime in the future, we are able to create and document a Cali Conference to fruition.
