The Weeknd Donates $1M For Hunger Relief In Ethiopia

Apr 6, 2021

The Weeknd is making a charitable $1 Million-dollar donation to hunger relief in Ethiopia. The money will help provide meals to those in need during the ongoing conflict between the government and Tigray region.

The “Blinding Lights” singer shared to Instagram on Sunday, “My heart breaks for my people of Ethiopia as innocent civilians ranging from small children to the elderly are being senselessly murdered and entire villages are being displaced out of fear and destruction.”

Although born and raised in Canada, Abel (The Weeknd) is the son of two Ethiopian immigrants.

Donations to help with hunger relief in Ethiopia can be made on the U.N. World Food Program’s website, where they also explain the “outbreak of conflict in Tigray”, along with the program’s mission statement.
