First off, I want to thank Cardi B for allowing listeners to invade her privacy, because her album that dropped in April called Invasion of Privacy is nothing short of superb. So, it’s an understatement to point out how difficult it was to choose one track off the project to feature this month. But, with Chance The Rapper on “Best Life,” it pushed it to the top. The beat is fun, and I mean the type of fun that you imagine the kids in Brooklyn are bumpin’ to on the streets. The duo both stuck to their originality, including emphasizing that in their bars. The listeners of Hip Hop were in mayhem when J. Cole dropped KOD, since the hype surrounding the project before the drop was to another level, as we soaked in the artwork and what the meaning behind the acronym is. The anticipation was somewhat unbearable, but we survived to enjoy the magic that J. Cole brought to our ears. “Motiv8” is one of the shorter tracks, but sometimes great things come in smaller packages. Even though the banger pumps you up, and the lyrics reflect, “I’m poppin’ a pill, I’m feelin’ alive,” there’s a deep message that ties in with the rest of the songs in order to elevate not turning to drugs to feel better. Post Malone ended the month strong with his release of beerbongs & bentleys, and “Spoil My Night” is gearing the Hip Hop world for the Summer. Swae Lee continues his melodic vocals that was prominent in “Unforgettable” effortlessly into the hit, joining Post Malone and his voice that has an effect that may potentially cause the listener to melt. It has all the noticeable factors to gravitate you towards legitimately having a summer fling with the single, and then obsessively making it a permanent part of your music life. With all that being said…
And the strongest drug of them all…
