G-Eazy & Valtonyc Legal Edition

May 30, 2018 ,

In the beginning of the month, the May gloom is something G-Eazy experienced when he was shaded with legal troubles. Sweden was shook, as was the rest of the world, when the rapper was arrested for drug possession, assault, and resisting arrest. So, simply put, he was “on one” and didn’t realize how he crossed the line with a Stockholm nightclub bouncer, the victim of the assault.

Gerald kept it G for immediately admitting that he was wrong, and a heartfelt message on social media sealed the deal:

Hopefully two years probation will mean that G-Eazy won’t be “doing some molly for the hell of it.”

While G-Eazy was quick to acknowledge what he considered to be mistakes, Valtonyc, a rapper from Spain, is being sentenced to prison for three and a half years for his rap lyrics, which he believes he should be able to express freely. He addressed this issue on Twitter, mentioning the warrant out for his arrest.

Translation: “Tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow they will knock down the door of my house to put me in jail. For some songs. Tomorrow Spain is going to make a fool of itself once again. I’m not going to make it so easy, disobeying is legitimate and obligation to this fascist state. There’s no giving up here.”

Valtonyc has also made it clear that he’s not a participant in “terrorism,” but simply spits bars about what has actually happened. Facts.

So, a huge question to ask is, as artists, should there ever be a limit to what they can rap or sing about?

Before diving into that, let’s travel back in time to 2016 (#WaybackWednesday) to when the Feds contacted YG’s label after the release of “FDT” and according to the Compton rapper, the Secret Service wanted to further look into the lyrics of the track and the album. Check out his response when this all went down by clicking here.

The bottom line is there’s the concept of freedom of speech and freedom of expression…and this topic will be be an ongoing one since if artists feel strongly about something, the fans and listeners will vouch for them, and stand by their words.
