It has been seven years since SZA has released her debut album “Ctrl”. When the album dropped fans were able to get a true understanding of SZA’s creative process due to the familiar mashups and references that she credits throughout the album. Being that SZA has always been just a very relatable artist, fans appreciate that.

Composed of 23 songs, the album has something for everyone rather that it be R&B , Rock, and even some country. Fans are noticing the sampling of BeyoncĂ©. On two of the artist’s most popular songs from the album. In her song “Snooze” the beat is a sample of BeyoncĂ©s “Me, Myself, and I.” Even though the two songs have two different messages, “Snooze” has a feel of familiarity which helps fans soon realize that they have heard the tempo before.

We also have “S.O.S” where Sza repeats a catchy catch phrase in Beyoncé’s “Listen.” Stating, “I’ve tried and tried to say what’s on my mind.” After recognizing that many fans rushed over to twitter to mash the two up, some even insinuated that they just know BeyoncĂ© is proud of the artist. Moreover, “Snooze” also sheds light on the 1983 film Scarface stating “ like that white b**tch with the bob I’ll be your main one.” Which is referring to the scene with Tony Montana and Elvira getting in the car.

Lastly, we have “Smoking on my ex Pack”, where the singer states “Abracadabra, you n****** sideshow I’m bobbin’ like psycho. Which is a reference to The Simpsons character Sideshow Bob. Fans raved about this one on twitter because it’s not just something that everyone will understand right away unless you’re a fan of the show or familiar with Simpson characters. This definitely matches the theme of the song because usually when Bob is mentioned in anything, it is used in a form of mockery. What better way to diss an ex than to mock them. Especially in terms of making a song.

Since recognizing these notable mentions fans have been seriously enjoying the album, because like everyone else fans love when their favorite artist relates to them. Some feel it’s almost as if the artist is giving a visual without an actual video. Overall, Sza’s fans are very pleased.
