Team Backpack shook Los Angeles May 1-3 with their Mission Underground LA 3-day conference, hosted at Mad Ave. LA. Filled with spitters and poets from all over the country, the collective brought forth a networking platform like no other. Cyphers left and right, auditions, live performances, and bonds that were formed.
A festival in its own sense, the weekend kicked off on Friday with the first batch of auditions and a beat showcase by Marcus Yates, Chase Moore, G_Force, Jon Glass, Clyde Strokes, and many more. As the heat built up, the second day launched with more auditions, live performances including Loaf Muzik, Joell Ortiz W/Illmind, Irv Da Phenom, and Jeff Turner.
Anxiety struck Sunday as come up artists awaited the announcement of the Top 12 Cypher Draft. Following the announcement, Mad Ave. boomed with rough beat drops while the Top 12 battled it out in a showdown. As the crowd roared for their favorites, the competition came close, but in the end, Chi Bully, Jae the Lyoness, and X took home the Top 3 titles.
To continue the business, the official Team Backpack Cypher taping commenced with the Heavy Hitters swinging their lines left and right (see full list below). The emcees revived the stage as laughs, claps, and “ooo”s filled the room. To close off a phenomenal weekend, Funk Volume’s Jarren Benton ripped the stage.
