When we think of R&B, it’s hard not to think about the 2000s classic songs by Ashanti, who put out hits back-to-back. And for some time the singer was battling legal issues to own the rights to her classic hits.

Luckily for the R&B lovers, the classic Ashanti hits are being revived since Ashanti officially owns the masters to her first album, Ashanti.

The former Murda Inc. member appeared on the Tamron Hall show on Sept. 28 for an interview when she unknowingly shared with the audience that she will be re-recording her debut album. She also expressed how great it felt to own the masters.

“It’s so surreal,” Ashanti expressed during the interview. “I have an amazing legal team, and I got my first record deal when I was 14 years old, so understanding and seeing how things have changed so much from then to now and conceptually understanding what you’re signing is so imperative. It’s so important nowadays. The fact that I’ll be able to re-record my first album and put everything together.”

It’s unknown when fans will get to hear the revived album or who will make their appearance again, but make sure to be on the lookout for it.
