Cam Gnarly – “333Hz” (Album Review)

Written by David McCloud

Cam Gnarly is focused on bigger thangs. Hailing from San Bernardino, California, Cam is known as the “Posi-God” and exudes big brother vibes. His earlier album, â€œGnarvana” is a proclamation of who the man and the artist is within this game. â€œ333Hz” focuses on Cam’s roots and his strengths. Clearly, on his own wavelength, Cam is confident in telling people to tune in and absorb the energy he has to offer. Bouncy synths and vinyl pops are frequent throughout the album, giving the listener an audio tour around Cam’s neighborhood. The intro’s instrumental is reminiscent of eating in the Rainforest Cafe, tropical and lofty. Cam is taking his time on the intro, saving his energy. â€œBigger Thangs” is a triumphant track that features heavy 808’s over a muted sample. Focusing his energy on “bigger thangs”, Cam is preaching productivity and staying focused on your goals, regardless of what problems may arise. The song also features a line read from the preface of â€œBehold A Pale Horse” which is amazing, I mean come on.

“Signs” is guaranteed to get the crowd hyped. Muddy drums and a swerving flow from Cam enables the track to be one of the best on the album. The song is promoting Gnarly’s advanced discernment when it comes to getting everything he needs. â€œToo Much” â€œReignited” are familiar west coast sounding tracks. The latter is a more downtempo track that focuses on self-improvement; whereas the former is bittersweet party track about the trials of relationships. â€œ$hine” is a great track and to me, the heart of the album. Cam Gnarly’s entire namesake can be summed up in this song. He’s an artist that strives to reach the goals he has set for himself and is aware of what that means for his family and community. â€œI just share my light so we can all shine
”

“Fake Internet” sounds like driving to the beach. You just got paid, you don’t have to work tomorrow and this song is blasting through your speakers. This is a great feel-good, bouncy track. â€œMaryjane” is an ode to Cam’s drug of choice. Roll one and light up. Cam hazily sings the late great Nate Dogg’s hook from, “Where I Wanna Be.” â€œAin’t Got It” is a slow-paced creeper. We’re now hotboxing in the car. Laced with braggadocio, the track finds Cam & Trizz drawing a line in the sand, claiming â€œthey ain’t got what we got.” A great artist is aware of his talents and what makes him so special apart from his contemporaries. Cam is very aware of his worth and is not afraid to say it here.

The album ends with, “Time Is All We Have”. A very uplifting and apt song for the moment. Cam is reflecting on his upbringing and what makes him, him. He’s reminded that Time is the only factor and sometimes, our only enemy. Artists usually set goals for themselves, and most of the time, these goals seem out of reach, which can lead to them doubting themselves. This song is a mature reminder to take time out to reflect and observe on what truly matters to become better. “333Hz” is a great project. It was crafted with care from the songwriting down to the production. Cam Gnarly has elevated his sound and himself on here, tune in.
